How To Make Your Own Window Cleaning Solution
We at Miss Mops Agency are always happy to pass on information and tips to save people money. To that end if we can help you make your own cleaning products, we’re happy to. A great example would be a window cleaner that you can make yourself from products you may already have in your home.
The following lists four easy recipes, using common household products, to make your own effective window cleaning solutions:
- One recipe for an excellent window cleaner requires three basic ingredients in the following quantities:
1 cup of distilled water
½ cup of rubbing alcohol
¼ cup of ammonia
The directions are to pour the mixture of ammonia and rubbing alcohol into the cup of distilled water. Mix together and pour into a spray bottle, shaking thoroughly to make sure the ingredients are sufficiently mixed. Put a label on the spray bottle so that it won’t be mixed up with anything else, or be accidentally mixed with or stored near bleach.
- If you would rather have an all-natural window cleaner, then one formulated with vinegar would be perfect. The ingredients are as follows:
¼ cup of white vinegar
1 gallon of distilled water
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
1/8 cup of dishwashing detergent (optional)
Mix the vinegar into a gallon of distilled water, adding the lemon juice to mask the smell of the vinegar. If your windows haven’t been washed in a long time or are extremely dirty, adding dish detergent to the other ingredients will make for a stronger window cleaner. Add the mixture to spray bottles and store in a safe place away from food.
- Another effective homemade window cleaner can be made using vinegar with ammonia:
½ cup of ammonia
½ cup of white vinegar
2 tablespoons of cornstarch
1 gallon of warm water
Mix together the ammonia, vinegar and cornstarch before pouring into a bucket of warm water. Thoroughly stir all the ingredients together until the cornstarch is completely dissolved. Add the mixture to spray bottles and store in a safe place, away from bleach as well as food.
- One more highly effective window cleaning solution can be made with club soda and lemon juice:
3 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 cups of club soda
1 teaspoon of cornstarch
Mix all the ingredients together, shaking thoroughly. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle, again shaking it vigorously before using. Store in a cool safe place. Make sure you shake the spray bottle again before every use.
Any one of the recipes outlined above will work great to clean your windows to a sparkle. For any other help regarding areas of your home that may need cleaning, feel free to give us a call at Miss Mops Agency.
