Miss Mops – a Referral Agency serving the San Francisco Bay Area

Miss Mops was founded by Adriana Esposito while she was still going to College. At that time, she met a few other students that were cleaning houses and they would often ask her to assist them. They needed help calling clients, organizing their schedules and finding prospects, since they did not have enough time and expertise to do so. That’s when Adriana envisioned and created Miss Mops Agency. Miss Mops connects clients to cleaners, makes communication between clients and cleaners smooth, and protects the clients’ best interests. Miss Mops only refers house cleaners who underwent a thorough background check, provided reliable references, showed proof of liability insurance and have experience with non-toxic cleaning. FAQ

Q. How many cleaners will you be sending to clean my home?

It all depends on how big the job is. We normally send 2 Cleaning Associates, but sometimes 1 cleaner can take care of everything. We will discuss the size of your home and what you need ahead of time, so you will know how many cleaner to expect.

Q. Will you be sending the same Cleaning Associate(s) for recurring jobs?

The same Cleaning Associate(s) will be permanently assigned to your home, so you don’t need to worry about strangers coming in. If you prefer that we send someone else, all you need to do is to let us know.

Q. What will happen with my security system?

We would prefer that you do not set your alarm on the day the cleaners are coming out. If you would like it to stay on, you can show your Cleaning Associate how to disarm and reset the alarm when he/she leaves.

Q. Do you require a signed contract from me?

No, we do not. The only requirement is that you give us a 24-hour notice if you want to cancel your scheduled appointment. Our Cleaning Associates are paid after each cleaning job they perform. If an appointment is cancelled and there isn’t enough time to schedule another appointment, our Cleaning Associates would be financially impacted.

Q. What happens if I forget that today is a cleaning day and I’m not home to let them in?

You will be charged $35 as a cancellation fee if you miss a scheduled appointment without giving us a 24-hour advance notice.

Q. What time are the Cleaning Associates supposed to arrive?

Our cleaning hours are from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Although we make our best effort to meet the specific arrival time, the standard practice is to allow a 2-hour arrival window to account for unexpected delays such as traffic or an extended time in the earlier job. If you need the Cleaning Associates to arrive at a specific appointment time, we recommend that you book the first time slot available for that day.

Q. Do you have insurance coverage for anything that might be damaged?

Each cleaner is contractually required to obtain and/or to maintain adequate insurance to cover damages to your home, its contents, as well as injury to themselves or to others. They are solely responsible for any and all damages that occur. Cleaners’ insurance will cover up to $250 for breakage. Our Theft Protection Plan covers up to $5,000 upon conviction per incident. Our independent Cleaning Associates are individually responsible for anything they damage while working in your home. You shall resolve this with them directly. Miss Mops Agency or the Cleaning Associates are not responsible for damages incurred by the improper installation of any object. All surfaces are assumed to be sealed. If you know of any surface that is not sealed, you must notify us so that the cleaner can clean it properly.

Q. What happens if something disappears from my home?

This is always a cause for concern and if this does happen, try to stay calm. Think about where you’ve been and see if you can retrace your actions. What we’ve found is that in about 90% of the cases, the missing item is found within 24 hours. However, if the item is not found or if you can clearly see that the item is gone, call our office immediately. Give us a complete description of the missing item and we will sit down with your Cleaning Associate to have a serious talk about what happened.

Of course we must treat anyone accused of stealing an item innocent while we investigate. If your Cleaning Associate claims they don’t know anything about this incident, you may need to place a call to your local law enforcement so they can investigate the matter further. Because we conduct a thorough background check on everyone during the selection process, we have never experienced a theft.

Q. Do I need to have all the cleaning supplies or will you provide them?

Our Cleaning Associates will bring all the supplies and equipment needed to clean your home. If you would like them to use something specific, that would be fine as long as you provide it.

Q. What is a Cleaning Associate?

Miss Mops Agency is not the employer of any domestic independent housekeeper/cleaner it refers to you. The Cleaning Associate may be an employee or an independent contractor depending on the relationship between you (the client) and the independent cleaner. Generally, if the client directs and controls the manner and means by which the housekeeper performs his or her work, the client may have employer responsibilities including employment taxes and workers’ compensation, under state and federal law. For additional information, contact your local Employment Development Department and the Internal Revenue Service.

Q. How do you gain access to my home if I’m not there?

Most of our clients are not home when we arrive to clean. We arrange with you ahead of time how to get in. Our Cleaning Associates are usually provided with a duplicate house key. If, for some reason, Cleaning Associates arrive and are unable to get in for their regularly scheduled house cleaning, we will charge you a $35 fee as compensation for our Cleaning Associate’s time and transportation costs.

Q. How should I get the house ready for the Cleaning Associate?

We ask that you do a quick walk-through, picking up any toys, clothing or other items lying around. Your Cleaning Associate won’t know where to put your personal items, and most of our clients prefer that they do not enter walk-in closets and do not open drawers looking for places to put those things.

Q. Would it be okay to leave notes for my Cleaning Associate?

It’s always best to communicate your needs so that nothing is overlooked. You can also write a note expressing any concerns you might have with the job they’re doing, or to tell them they’re doing a good job. It’s not a good idea to only write notes when you aren’t happy. All communications should end on a positive note!

Q. What happens if my regular cleaning day falls on a holiday?

We will certainly contact you in advance to schedule another appointment.

Q. What if something comes up and I need to reschedule?

Please give us at least 24-hour notice, calling our office. We will schedule another time to come out and clean your home.

Q. Do you do a background check on all your independent Cleaning Associates?

Absolutely! We do not hire anyone who doesn’t have a stable work history and cannot provide us at least four references that we can verify. Our Cleaning Associates have passed a background check so that we can be sure none have a single felony conviction in their record.

Q. Where should I put my pets?

This is something we need to discuss directly with you before we send anyone out. The Cleaning Associates generally adore animals, but that doesn’t mean animals feel the same way about the Cleaning Associates. If your pet might be overly nervous while we’re in your home, please leave them in a kennel, in your garage or in a room that is closed so the cleaner won’t disturb them.

Q. How do I pay for the services?

Payment is due at the time of service – we do not invoice. We accept Master Card, Visa, checks or cash. If you are paying by check, please make it payable to Miss Mops.

Q. What is customary regarding tips?

Although leaving a tip is certainly not expected, it is a fairly common practice in this industry. You should never feel you must leave a tip, and we do not want you to leave one hoping they will do a better job next time! Only leave a tip if you think you are getting great service. Tips usually goes from 10% to 15%. It’s totally up to you.

Q. Can I hire one of the Cleaning Associates?

Should you wish to hire a present or past member of the Miss Mops Agency to work on any home-related service outside of your agreement with Miss Mops Agency, our referral fee is $2,500. This fee is due within 30 days of notification from Miss Mops Agency. If the fee is not paid, Miss Mops Agency reserves the right to pursue other methods of collection.
